Year 4 had an opportunity to shine in their ‘Movie’ themed showcase. An evening of music and dance from the world of stage and screen was performed, giving the pupils an insight into the performance world of yesteryear.

During the evening we presented a first for S. Anselm’s, our very ambitious attempt at film making. 4B devised their own ‘Silent Movie’ during their Drama lessons. ‘Damsel’s in Distress’ was filmed with the assistance of Peak Rail. Calling them to ask if they had a piece of train track without trains we could use was seen as a challenge for all concerned. The day of filming was a triumph. Bakewell Police even leant a hand by allowing us to shoot a scene inside their station. The finished piece gave the whole production a sense of drama and the pupils much needed acting experience.

It was also an ideal time to give the drama department its own new name and logo. ‘Staged @ S. Anselm’s’ had its new image designed in ICT by the very talented Francesca B. The new t-shirts gave the production a very professional edge. Well done Francesca and all the other pupils who entered the design competition.
The performing arts is now a high profile department within the school and we look forward to producing more highly entertaining shows.
