Year 7 showcase: Top of the Pops

On Thursday 25 November, year 7 pupils from S Anselm's turned back time to the 1970s for their lively and colourful Showcase performance.

With choreographed dances by Sharon Taylor and Michelle Northcott, the year group donned their afros and platform shoes for an evening to remember.

Presented by Nick T and Lewis J, the 'Tops of the Pops'-style production kicked off with a performance of the Bee Gees' hit, Stayin' Alive.

Abba followed, with a performance of Super Trouper, with Arabella H and Ella T showing both stage presence and immense vocal talent in their solos.

A first performance by Pan's People (aka year 7 girls) followed, with a dance to Do you Wanna Dance? before the audience were treated to the first of the two films of the evening.     The first was a spoof version of the opening credits of Charlie's Angels:

before the film screen returned for a spoof of the A Team:

 A full year group dance to David Bowie's Space Oddity continued the performance, before a lively sung and choreographed version of Queen's great hit, Don't Stop me Now.

To conclude the pupils' performance, the tempo was slowed right down as they performed John Lennon's Imagine with sign-language - a beautiful end to a fantastic evening.

But it didn't stop there!   Staff and parents were then invited down to the front for a 5-song 70s discos.   Some of the parents had dressed up for the occasion.  Others just let their feet take them back four decades.    All in all, a terrific evening.

Thanks go to all the pupils for throwing themselves into it.   Mrs Northcott (choreographer), Mrs Taylor (choreographer and director) and Mr Weller (music and technical) had a fantastic time putting the performance all together.
