On Wednesday 31st October, College pupils in Derwent and Arkwright visited the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
After sketching and making notes about the collection in the fashion gallery, pupils used a map of the galleries to plan out where they wanted to visit to carry out self-directed investigations. Pupils negotiated in their small groups to plan their time so that they could all see a collection that they wanted to see.
In the afternoon we visited the Frida Kahlo exhibition ‘Making Her Self Up’. This was a fantastic exhibition presenting an extraordinary collection of personal artifacts and clothing belonging to the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Locked away for 50 years after her death, this collection has never before been exhibited outside Mexico.
Derwent Textiles pupils are creating a textile piece in response to this exhibition back at school.
If you look carefully at the group photograph you can see that Thea is standing inside a large Frida Kahlo head!
