Our Prep School and College children braved the rain to attend our annual Advent Service in Bakewell Parish Church.
All our Year 8 readers spoke beautifully, explaining the Advent themes of hope, peace, joy and love as Freya carefully lit each candle in turn, ending with the central Christ candle (usually lit on Christmas morning). Canon Tony reminded us all that Jesus came to provide healing and reconciliation, mending rifts and joining us together with the bonds of love. The children then brought their wishes for the world – including an end to wars, ending homelessness, spreading friendship and calm – as they placed swaddling cloths into the nativity crib to represent the bonds of love.
As we prepare for the birth of Jesus during Advent, may the Lord, when he comes, find us prepared to receive him.
We look forward to welcoming parents and families at our candlelit Service of Nine Lessons & Carols in Bakewell Church on Thursday 14th December at 4pm.
