To mark National Story Telling Week and inspire creativity, an excited group of Year 7 pupils spent an enjoyable afternoon in the Bakewell Bookshop where they were joined by nationally renowned, award winning, local author, Sophie Draper. Sophie has published several books in the last decade, including ‘Magpie’, ‘Cuckoo’ and ‘The House of Secrets’. All three books have a focus on local legend and are thrillers with great pace and energy. She is also a professional story-teller who has worked across the country inspiring students and helping their creative writing skills.
Sophie enthralled our pupils with stories about stars, princesses and secrets as well as singing us songs. The children were then able to ask her about the life of an author and how best to go about story writing. It was a magical afternoon – made even more enjoyable by the delicious hot chocolate and cakes served by Bakewell Bookshop – and every one of the children were inspired and keen to get on with their own creative writing!
