We were delighted to hold a Black Writers – ‘Turning Poetry to Prose’ Online Workshop today, thanks to the Arvon Foundation and an acclaimed published writer, Ashley Hickson Lovence.

Our Year 8 pupils used the first sentences of a range of poetry and prose written by black authors to inspire them in free writing. They then examined and compared poetic structure and the arc of stories and explored characterisation, imagery and sensory language. Some superb writing was produced which was valuable preparation for the forthcoming examinations, but most importantly, a chance to be creative and artistic!
