It was another action-packed Sunday for our boarders, who were once again able to enjoy the natural wonders and breath-taking views of the Peak District.

In the morning they enjoyed cycling along the Monsal Trail, using bicycles hired from Hassop Station. In the afternoon it was ‘Spy Games’, a selection of the best of Mr Jackson’s now infamous Parlour Games. Great fun was had by all and they were ready for their tasty roast pork dinner that evening.

Mount Cook Explorers

Squeals of delight rang around School House on Monday morning, as the boarders welcomed the Year 5 Mount Cook intrepid explorers into the boarding house.  All dropped off their bags and then left for an action-packed day at Mount Cook.  On return to school at 5pm there was time for a snack and chill in the dorms, before a boarding explanation briefing, so everyone was confident about where the loos, facilities and fire escapes were and what the schedule was for the next couple of nights.  There was just time for some free time outside before a sumptuous barbecue on the Headmaster’s lawn.  Luckily the weather was favourable, after the earlier showers in the day and everyone was able to sit outside and eat al fresco, basking in the warm sunshine.

Straight after supper, it was off to the Forest School area for a campfire, (Mrs B’s Girl Guide days were revisited and in no time at all she had the camp fire roaring!)  After a good selection of ghost stories, told by staff and pupils alike, there was just enough time to toast some marshmallows and enjoy a cup of cocoa, before heading back to the dorms in School House.

After showers and dressing down into PJs, Year 5 enjoyed a story together in the Boarders’ Common Room, before heading off to bed, ready for a good night’s sleep.

At the point of writing, Year 5 are enjoying their second day of activities at Mount Cook and the boarding staff are busy setting up the Rounders equipment for when they return and finalising the disco equipment in the sports hall for the evening’s activities.  It promises to be another fun, action-packed evening!
