On Thursday 12th May we were delighted to welcome the impressive Shrewsbury School Music Department led by Maria McKenzie (their September 2022 Director of Music), Katy Landon (woodwind) and Reuben Alldridge (brass). Pupils from the S. Anselm’s School Brass and Swing band plus S. Anselm’s drummer, Alex, participated in instrument specific workshops with the Shrewsbury musicians throughout the afternoon, rehearsing pieces such as ‘Joshin’ Around’, ‘Sloop John B’ and ‘Wallace and Gromit’.
This all culminated with in an absolutely spectacular concert in the Hargreaves Hall, attended by an appreciative audience of S. Anselm’s staff, pupils and parents. The combined ensemble performed the pieces they had been rehearsing and the individual brass and swing quartets from Shrewsbury performing stunning movie medleys.
Performing alongside older Shrewsbury School musicians proved an immensely positive and inspiring experience for our budding Prep School musicians, adding yet another boost to their musicianship and confidence.
