S. Anselm’s participated in an Indian themed day.  Throughout the day, the children had the opportunity to participate in exhilarating Indian drumming workshops, facilitated by Dohl Drum specialist Taj, from Made of Music.

Explanations and impressive virtuosic rhythmic demonstrations from leader Taj inspired participants fuelling a mesmerizing performance.  The ‘Dohl Drum’ is particular to the Punjabi ‘five rivers’ region of India and common place within celebrations and previously used for communication purposes.  We thank Taj for his experienced presentation and look forward to welcoming him back in the future.

At lunchtime, the school Dining Room was transformed into an Indian restaurant and our science teacher Dr Mohammad Moazzam turned professional chef for the occasion and served up a menu or authentic Indian and Pakistani cuisine that was simply superb!

Dr Moazzam commented:

“Teachers always get asked many questions by their pupils, such as how old one is? Do you have children? etc.  For me also, I am asked ‘what was your occupation before you became a teacher?’  So, when I tell them that I was a Restaurant Manager in an Indian Restaurant, they become very excited and then ask if I can also cook?  Yesterday was a good opportunity for S. Anselm’s and our children to taste some authentic Indian/Pakistani food and increase their respect and understanding of different cultures. I am glad that everyone enjoyed the food and that I had the opportunity from the school to perhaps use my little experience to bring some joy!”
