It was a perfect start to the Summer term to walk down the hill to Bakewell Parish Church in the glorious sunshine, to join in celebrating the feast day of our school’s patron Saint with our School Chaplain, Canon Tony Kaunhoven.
After a welcome by Mr Thompson, the children shared insight into Saint Anselm’s life and explained that his name was chosen for our school by our founder, because Saint Anselm was a renowned teacher and it was felt that his personality and qualities would inspire young people to strive to learn, develop their personal gifts and ‘to be, rather than seem to be’ in their lives. Thanks were given for all those who have made, and continue to make S. Anselm’s School such and excellent place of learning since 1888.
The Chapel Choir sung two poignant pieces from ‘Les Miserables’, before everyone joined in singing our school hymn ‘I Vow to Thee, My Country’, to close the service.
