The Holmes Cup has been a truly brilliant chess tournament involving 68 students from Years 3-8 over the term.

The tournament itself was riveting from start to finish with some great chess being played. The semifinals were played between Maryna v Oscar and Thomas v Edward.

Following this, the highly anticipated final was played by Oscar and Thomas. It was back and forth and an intense mental battle between both. With each person down to their last few pieces. The end of the match was a race of the pawns and Oscar got his Queened first which clinched it. Oscar finally check mated Thomas in a fantastic final.

Massive credit to Thomas for pushing Oscar all the way and a huge congratulations to Oscar who has been a credit to the school for everything he has done for chess at S. Anselm’s this year. Well done Oscar, the Holmes Cup Champion!
