The 2021 House Mud Run returned this year with light drizzle, adding to the already slippery and muddy conditions. It was fantastic to see our parents on Top Field supporting all our pupils as they rose to the challenge of the mud!
Every child from the Prep School (Year 3 upwards) and College competed on behalf of their School Houses, and many claimed it was even better than 2019 when the Hay Bale Tunnel had featured on the course. This year, there were paddling pools full of mud, a 15m long leaf covered cargo net to crawl through, a wall of tyres that our runners had to scramble over and the infamous large water jump to navigate, which many accomplished in considerable style!
Four races took place during the afternoon: Juniors, Middles, Seniors and College – with each becoming successively more muddy. Mrs Whawell – or Mrs Motivator – did a fantastic job of warming up each race team prior to their starting whistle, whilst Mr Critchlow raised the bar, equipped with rubber ring and pet duck, took charge of the water jump!
Thank you to all our Prep pupils, College students, staff and parents, whose true S. Anselm’s spirit made the event such a success. Special thanks are due to our grounds team, Mr Repton and Mr Allen for the enormous amount of preparation that went into setting up the course, and our catering team for warming everyone back up at the finish line, with hot soups.
