After three years, we were delighted by the return of the annual House Shout Competition. Following weeks of rehearsals during house meetings, all the houses performed two pieces: Crazy Little Thing Called Love and an ABBA song of their choice.

Advice, ideas and inspiration were given by the house teachers and with a little help from Mr Percival, our Director of Music.

We were lucky enough to have the Head of Admissions at Rugby School and professional singer, Laura Bursey Faulkner, as our adjudicator for the day. Her adjudication was insightful and positive and a fun and enjoyable afternoon of singing was had by all.

Her comments for each house are as follows.

Pitts, whose performance of Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Super Trouper was “polished with excellent diction and story-telling” and  was “delivered with lots of passion and commitment.” They had “excellent tuning and a Capella singing.”

Wellies’ performance of CLTCL and Thank you for the Music was “very authentic and sincere” and their singing was “effective” and “captured the nuances, theme and mood of the songs.”

Nelsons’ CLTCL and Mamma Mia was a “well thought out” performance with “effective choreography.” There was “imaginative use of the voices, good call and response sections and creative costumes adding to the production of the performances”.

The winners of House Shout 2022 were Churchills with CLTCL and Dancing Queen. They won due to their “lovely collaborative performances with high energy and commitment from the very start. The whole House was totally invested in delivering highly entertaining performances.” The performance was “strong, powerful and tuneful” throughout.

This was a fantastic event capturing the very essence of S. Anselm’s School spirit and dedication. The singing was of an extremely high standard. Thank you to all of those who helped lead and teach the songs to all of the Houses and for everyone’s dedication.
