Overseas Pupils

The S. Anselm’s community is greatly enriched by the variety of different and cultures from which our pupils originate.

We are always delighted to consider pupils who have a good understanding of English and who hope to go on to study at senior schools in the UK or abroad.

As a traditional English Preparatory boarding school, S. Anselm’s is an extremely attractive choice for overseas pupils. We seek to create an environment in which all pupils are drawn together in their desire for excellence and which prepares them to seize the challenges of the modern world.

We often have pupils in school from China, Hong Kong, Ukraine, Nigeria, Spain, Portugal and France.

Our boarding staff are extremely caring and supportive and teachers are well placed to ensure that their specific academic needs and aspirations are met.  We also offer one of the most extensive programmes of curriculum enhancement activities and clubs to be found anywhere.  The school is at the heart of a National Park so the local environment is beautiful and typically English. Every year, pupils from overseas are accepted into the school but the majority of boarders are British. Hence, the school ensures that overseas pupils feel welcomed into a warm environment but that they are also surrounded by English culture and quickly advance their language skills.

Keeping in touch

It is very easy for S. Anselm’s pupils to stay in contact with home. Boarders have access to the school’s phone for making outbound calls and there are two boarders’ mobiles for receiving calls. We arrange for overseas boarders to have internet access at set times to contact family at a time which is suited to your time zone. Each child is allocated a personal email address and there is the opportunity to write a letter home every Sunday.

Transport Links

S. Anselm’s is centrally located and easily accessible from major motorways, the closest being the M1 (Junction 29).

Manchester International and East Midlands Airports are within an hour’s journey by car or taxi, whilst London is 1 hour 50 minutes from Chesterfield Station (to London St. Pancras International). We also offer an escorted service to and from Heathrow Airport.

Our School Office is happy to assist with taxi/private transfers to or from the airport or railway station at the start and end of school holidays and exeats.

Forces families

With a long association with service families, our house parents and boarding staff are experienced in caring for pupils from Forces families and appreciate the particular needs, worries and support required to ensure their school experience is fulfilling and fun.

Our home-from-home atmosphere and family environment provide the stability to ensure that children can thrive, surrounded by friends, supportive house parents and other staff.

Our central location and generous fee remission mean that S. Anselm’s remains a popular destination for Forces children.

We have a number of service families who are happy to talk to prospective service families and share their experience of the school and its boarding provision. Please contact the office for details.

Guardians

Pupils whose parents are based overseas must appoint an English-speaking adult living in the UK, to act as their Guardian whilst the pupil is in the UK.

Whilst parents remain the first line of contact, the role of the Guardian is to be responsible for arrangements at the beginning and end of each term and for the care of pupils during half-terms, exeats and in emergencies.

We also recommend, wherever possible, that Guardians are based sufficiently locally to take an interest in the pupil’s welfare.

Suitable guardians might be relatives or family friends resident in the UK. Should this not be possible, there are several agencies that offer this service. Further information is available from the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students (AEGIS). [add link www.aegisuk.net]

Overseas applications

Mrs Nicky Webster handles all aspects of international admissions. Whether via an agent or directly, she will guide you through the process.

Wherever possible, we like to meet all families considering S. Anselm’s.

Visas and entry requirements

S. Anselm’s holds a UKVI Child Student Visa Licence and is classed as a Highly Trusted Sponsor (HTS). This means we are licensed to sponsor overseas nationals to obtain their student visa as quickly as possible. The school issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) directly to the UKVI. The CAS number is provided to the pupil’s parents for presentation to the Embassy with their visa application. The CAS will be issued once we have received the completed registration form and fees.

Our Bursary is happy to assist should there be any additional visa requirements.
