The Prep School Debating Club has been popular this term and a group of persuasive Year 8’s gathered to debate various topics and play a debating game called “Switch!”. In pairs, the children firstly articulated a proposal for a motion then when their partner said, “Switch!” they had to change their view and argue in opposition. A range of topics were debated, the children had great fun and were very persuasive. Importantly, pupils were developing their speaking skills and were having to think on their toes. Mental elasticity under pressure is a key skill and the more they practice the better they get!
