Congratulations to our swimmers who journeyed to Louth, Lincolnshire on Friday 20th April, to compete in the ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) Gala. S. Anselm’s entered two teams in the freestyle and mixed stroke relays, with the A team (Sofia, Harriet, Ben and Miles), winning both of their heats and then both of their finals to be crowned Midlands Divisional Champions, a region including Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire! Their events drew the largest number of competitors and for the majority of our squad, this was the largest gala they had been involved in, with all of them swimming brilliantly.

There was success for our B team too, who also qualified for both the finals. After finishing 3rd in the heat of the freestyle relay, the Bs really stepped up a gear to push our A team all the way to the finish. They finished the race 2nd overall, beating the A teams from all the other competing schools and also should have qualified for the Nationals, but sadly the competition rules stipulate that each school are only permitted to have one team representing them at the finals. Brilliant swimming Max, Rufus, Zara and Charlie! The team also qualified for the final of the mixed stroke relay, but finished 5th overall in this race.

Well done everybody – both teams really did S. Anselm’s proud!
