Our Senior Prep pupils enjoyed a fabulous day of cycling today. As part of our school cycling initiative this term, all S. Anselm’s pupils will take part in a cycling related activity. Our Pre-Pep and Pre-School children have their ‘bikeability’ sessions this Friday, but the rest of the Prep School have experienced mountain biking, track cycling or today’s experience of Cyclocross.
Cyclocross (CX, cyclo-X or ‘cross) is a form of cycle racing that consists of laps of a short course, featuring paths, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles that require riders to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount. Our event took place on Top Field with Years 6, 7, 8 participating within their separate year groups. Cycle Derby put our pupils through their paces with coaching on how to risk sprint start and navigate the many corners. Pupils then all took part in some individual, handicap and team relay races.
A great effort everyone!
