Pupils in Years 3 to 6 attending one of our twice weekly STEM lunchtime clubs, have thoroughly enjoyed investigating and making their own toothpaste as part of the British Science Association Crest Awards programme.  The activity has included trying and testing leading brands against their own, homemade toothpaste, consisting of bicarbonate of soda, salt, cornflour, peppermint oil, glycerine, water, and optional red food colouring (to create a pink paste).  Each child had to test their own toothpaste against the leading brands, by cleaning a dirty whiteboard; and the winning toothpaste for cleanliness was … the homemade version!

[The children were dressed in multi coloured clothes, hats and wigs in support of Nelsons’ House Mufti Day!]
