On Thursday last week, S. Anselm’s celebrated World Book Day with typical gusto! The children really entered into the spirit of the day and we welcomed characters from Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Piglet from Winnie the Poo to the Mr Men and Little Miss characters. We also had an Oliver Twist and Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

Over £200 has been raised for the charity, ‘Book Trust’ which promotes literacy across the UK and globally. Prizes will be awarded for the ‘best dressed’ this week.

Ms Murphy’s Bingo Book Hunt was the first activity of the day and the children raced around the school trying to find answers to a range of literary questions.

Throughout the day the bell was rung and we all indulged in some peaceful reading for five minutes and swapped our favourite book tips before carrying on.

Lunch was revolting!  Well, it was actually rather appetising, but it was conjured up out of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes book and we are very grateful to the catering team for supporting the day and creating such a literary lunch!

Our thanks to the parents, children and all the staff who made the day a success and who supported the various initiatives so enthusiastically.
