Year One began the Summer Term with a visit to Longshaw Estate as their first step towards becoming ‘Park Rangers’.
The children had a fun-filled day of pond dipping, learning about food chains and life-cycles, identifying different types of trees, spotting signs of wild animals using all of their senses and searching for mini-beasts in the undergrowth. The highlights were catching and observing the vast amounts of pond life, finding a badger sett and also the gruesome remains of a jay, which the children debated had either been eaten by a fox or a bird of prey.
The children will continue to build upon their knowledge and skills so that they can open their own Ranger Campground and invite their parents to enjoy a ‘Ranger experience’ for themselves. Watch this space!
