Year 4 had a great trip to the Dewa Roman Experience in Chester, where they met Romans and discovered what life was like in the Fortress of Deva, nearly 2000 years ago.

They learnt about the history of Chester through a mix of ancient archaeological remains and cutting-edge technology. They also learnt about what it was like to be a Roman centurion through an interactive activity – Soldier School.

Firstly, Year 4 learnt how to make the famous Roman battle formation, The Tortoise, by creating a wall of shields. Once they had perfected their battle cries, they marched into town. They paraded through the streets of Chester, visiting the old Bath house and Amphitheatre to learn how Romans kept clean and how they entertained themselves by watching gladiators.

The pupils had a wonderful day and learned a lot about Roman history.
