Scholarships at S. Anselm’s Senior School

Recognising talent. Rewarding ambition. Inspiring excellence.

At S. Anselm’s, we believe that exceptional talent deserves to be recognised, encouraged and celebrated.

Our Senior School Scholarship Programme is designed for pupils who demonstrate outstanding ability, genuine enthusiasm and the determination to make the most of their talents. We are looking for young people who are ambitious, curious and committed, and who will contribute positively to the wider life of our school.

From September 2027, S. Anselm’s Senior School will offer scholarships in three areas:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Sport
  • Creative & Performing Arts

Each scholarship carries a 20% reduction in tuition fees, awarded from Year 7 and continuing throughout the pupil’s Senior School education to the end of Year 11, subject to the terms of the award.

Our scholarships recognise achievement, but they are equally concerned with potential. We want to celebrate young people who are prepared to work hard, embrace new experiences, challenge themselves and inspire those around them.

Academic Scholarships

For curious minds, independent thinkers and pupils who thrive on a challenge.

Academic Scholarships are awarded to pupils who demonstrate exceptional academic ability, intellectual curiosity and a sustained commitment to learning.

Applicants must have a strong record of academic achievement, with standardised assessment scores in English, Mathematics and Science consistently exceeding age-related expectations.

However, academic achievement alone does not define an S. Anselm’s Academic Scholar.

We are looking for well-rounded young people who participate enthusiastically in a broad range of school endeavours, whether through sport, music, drama, leadership, community activities or other areas of school life.

Successful applicants will demonstrate a willingness to challenge themselves, embrace unfamiliar experiences and persevere when learning becomes difficult. They will be thoughtful, inquisitive and independent learners who are motivated by the pleasure of discovering something new.

Assessment and supporting evidence

Applicants will be expected to provide:

  • Evidence of consistently high academic attainment, including standardised assessment scores in English, Mathematics and Science.
  • A reference from their current school, commenting on academic ability, attitude to learning, character and contribution to wider school life.
  • Details of their participation and achievements across a range of school activities.
  • An interview with the Headteacher.
  • Participation in an Academic Scholarship Assessment Day, involving academic challenges, problem-solving and opportunities to demonstrate creativity, reasoning and independent thinking.

We are particularly interested in pupils who combine academic excellence with humility, resilience, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to contribute to their school community.

Sport Scholarships

For talented athletes, committed teammates and young people who lead by example.

Our Sport Scholarships recognise pupils who demonstrate exceptional sporting ability, dedication and the potential to achieve at a high level.

We welcome applications from talented young sportspeople across a wide range of team and individual sports.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to their chosen sport, including regular training, competitive participation and a willingness to continually improve.

Evidence of representation at district, county, regional or national level will be particularly valued, although we recognise that pathways and opportunities vary between sports.

Sport Scholars are expected to make a significant contribution to sporting life at S. Anselm’s, representing the school with pride, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and setting a positive example through their commitment, teamwork and attitude.

Assessment and supporting evidence

Applicants will be expected to provide:

  • Details of sporting achievements, competitive experience and training commitments.
  • Evidence of representative honours, club participation or other significant sporting achievements.
  • A reference from a school sports teacher, club coach or relevant sporting organisation.
  • An interview with the Headteacher.
  • Participation in a Sport Scholarship Talent Day, where pupils will have opportunities to demonstrate sporting ability, teamwork, coachability, determination and potential.

We are looking for pupils who understand that sporting excellence is built upon dedication, discipline, resilience and respect for others.

Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships

For imaginative minds, expressive performers and young people with a passion for creativity.

Our Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships celebrate exceptional talent and potential across Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts.

We welcome applications from pupils who have demonstrated particular ability in one or more creative disciplines and who are enthusiastic about developing their talents further.

Applicants may be accomplished musicians, aspiring actors, talented dancers, promising visual artists or young people whose creativity extends across several disciplines.

We recognise that creative talent takes many forms. Alongside technical ability and achievement, we value originality, imagination, commitment and the confidence to explore new ideas.

Creative & Performing Arts Scholars will be expected to contribute actively to the cultural life of S. Anselm’s, taking part in performances, productions, concerts, exhibitions and other creative opportunities.

Assessment and supporting evidence

Applicants will be expected to provide:

  • Details of their creative interests, training, experience and achievements.
  • A reference from a school teacher, music tutor, drama or dance teacher, or relevant arts organisation.
  • A portfolio of artwork, recordings of musical or dramatic performances, or other examples of creative work, as appropriate.
  • Evidence of participation in performances, productions, exhibitions, ensembles, competitions or external creative activities.
  • An interview with the Headteacher.
  • Participation in a Creative & Performing Arts Talent Day, audition, practical assessment or portfolio review, depending on their chosen discipline.

Evidence of achievement beyond school, including involvement in county or regional ensembles, productions, competitions or exhibitions, will be welcomed.

Above all, we are looking for young people who bring energy, originality and enthusiasm to their creative pursuits and who are excited by the opportunities available at S. Anselm’s.
