Extra-curriculars / The Arts

The Arts at S. Anselm’s is where children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves and to explore what is possible.

S. Anselm’s offers every child the chance to explore the arts, play, imagine and create – developing skills and creative expression that stays with them for life.

Music

Music is at the heart of S. Anselm’s with over 90% of our pupils learning an instrument.

Specialist Music Teachers

Children are taught by specialist music teachers who nurture skills, confidence and creativity. As pupils move into the Prep School, all lessons take place in our dedicated School of Music, where they follow the ABRSM syllabus and can join extra theory clubs and ensembles as their interests grow.

Our team of 15 visiting specialists teach all major orchestral instruments and voice, with rotating lesson times to support academic balance. Pupils achieve excellent results in ABRSM exams, and many go on to win music awards to leading senior schools including Eton, Shrewsbury and Malvern.

The S. Anselm’s Chapel Choir

The S. Anselm’s Chapel Choir is widely admired for its exceptional standard. Alongside leading school services, the choir undertakes regular UK and European tours, with recent visits to Lisbon, Dublin, Prague, Salzburg and Oxford.

Drama

Pupils are encouraged to express themselves with confidence and discover the joy of performing.

Performing arts for building confidence

Drama enriches the S. Anselm’s community through vibrant productions that nurture confidence, creative and articulate expression. Performances come to life in our impressive 240-seat theatre.

For communication

Drama also plays an important role in developing communication skills. All pupils in Years 4, 6 and 8 work towards English Speaking Board exams, building confidence and clarity in speaking and listening. Those who wish to take their skills further can join LAMDA lessons, working towards graded exams in Communication and Speaking Verse & Prose.

Finding their voice

Above all, Drama at S. Anselm’s is about enjoyment, imagination and shared creativity. It offers every child the chance to discover their voice, collaborate with others and experience the thrill of bringing a story to life on stage.

Art

Art thrives at S. Anselm’s with children exploring artistic movements and cultures from around the world.

The joy of creating

From the earliest years, pupils learn that art is a space for ideas, individuality and possibility.

Our bright art studio, pottery room and art library give pupils room to experiment with drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, textiles, ceramics and sculpture.

Experiences beyond the classroom
Gallery visits and exhibitions offer first‑hand inspiration throughout the year. Pupils can also extend their passion through an after‑school art club (from Year 6) and a pottery club open to all.

Let them be explore possibilities, finding joy in creating.
